Game-Day Technology

So the OU vs. TCU game was yesterday. I know that a football game may not seem related to the topic of technology but in a weird way, the game showed me how deeply technology is really embedded into our society these days.
For starters, the game is recorded and shown on television to fans nation-wide. Then there's all of the different technologies used to do things like show the game on the enormous screen in the stadium so that fans can see it, or guide all of the remote controlled cameras in the stadium, or work the speaker systems to make the ref's calls audible to the crowd. But among all of these amazing uses of technology are the fans use of their personal technological devices. As I watched all of the frustrated Frog fans and ecstatic Sooner fans leave the stadium, I noticed that almost all of them were on a phone or similar device, no doubt spreading the news to friends and family. These people were probably making posts on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Tumblr, or simply texting and making calls to tell others about what happened. Along with the crowd at the game, were the fans that watched on TV, who probably did the same thing. Then, the people that found out about the game results through these initial posts make their own posts or calls and so on and so forth. Along with all of this person-to-person traveling of information, organizations like ESPN and BleacherReport.com and pretty much any U.S. news center announces the results and game highlights on TV and/or online. In the end, technology has gone full circle, from making it possible to watch the game without being in the stadium, to making it possible to know the result of the game within seconds without even watching it in person or on TV. That is pretty awesome!

Technology has also made it possible for me to insert a link here so that you can read about recent games, or old one's if you so choose, and see pic's and videos for yourself!

  1. This is a really cool post for many reasons. The new and up to date technology such as phones, tv's, jumbo trons, and loud speakers are all adequate for football games. the chain reaction from the game to a friend then so forth is exactly what happens so any form of entertainment these days spreads like the speed of light. As you mentioned that you can get updated scores/highlights with out even watching the game is incredible. Friends, social media, and apps all can help with your situation of not watching the game.
